And grand it was! I have always bemoaned taking LuLu to her neonatal appointments because, well, quite frankly, I don't get along with one of her doctors! But this time, I requested to see the doctor who first responded to her when she arrived at the Children's Hospital. I had never actually met her before and thought since this should be our last visit, I should meet one of the many people who helped save LuLu's life.
First we meet nurse Tina who was about in tears to see LuLu because she remembers taking care of her in NICU. Then Tina calls nurse Nancy and LuLu talked to her on the phone! To make a long story short, she blew the doctor away with her above average vocabulary and splendid growth progress. She kept saying how impressed she was, which meant a lot to me since the other doctor, (you know, the one I don't get along with) always acted like I should readmit her into the hospital and never had anything positive to say.
After seeing that doctor, LuLu was directed to another one who did some OT work with her. Again, she performed well and impressed this doctor very much by doing various tasks on a three year old level! (Reminder, she will be 2 in one month!)She was very impressed with LuLu's ability to concentrate on a single task and could name and identify objects in a picture book that she "shouldn't" know at her age. The OT said LuLu made her week and was so very happy with her that she said we don't need to come back EVER again! YAHOO!!
They may ask us to come volunteer for future research on ECMO children who had the cold patch on their foreheads, which they believe has greatly aided infants in their recovery process and development. There may be some validity to that, but I know that God has performed a miracle in our baby through your prayers, and for that, we are blessed!
